When The Road Beckons By Ravi Manoram-Book Review

If you are looking for a book on self-discovery and self-realisation by going on a journey to a place like Ladakh, then this is definitely a good pick for you.

“When The Road Beckons”, A book which appears to be just another travelogue in the first go, gives you answers about your true calling towards its end. It has been one of the favourite reads of the cricketer, Mithali Raj and No. 1 read in travel writing for some weeks. This novel greets you with a spell-bounding poetry and takes you on a ride away from the hustle-bustle of the city life. Amidst the web of expectations and settling in life, the protagonist Ravi decides to go on a journey to the mountains on his Thunderbird. The author beautifully describes the sceneries both inside and outside of his mind to his readers that makes them ride as a pillion.

...at the stroke of midnight, half of the world would actually be awake or in the process of waking up.

The devils of self-doubt, laziness and risk resistance drive us away from our true calling and land us in a rat race. The author silently connects his journey to our everyday lives which leaves the readers introspecting. Rising and falling with the author while discovering the true messages, nature has to offer feels incredible. The invigorating descriptions of the places like Srinagar, Kargil, Leh, Nubra Valley, Ladakh, Manali brings them to life.

I must be passionate but at the same time learn to let things go.

This book covers every element of life such as Fear, Passion, Love, Introspection, Death, Journey, Enlightenment, God, Choices, Decision and gives them a novel perspective. It can be a really useful pick for the people searching for their inner voice and for the ones who feel lost in choices and decision making. Visiting places was meant to be lost in the scenic beauty of nature, but we often reduce the trips to just , a to do list. We remain caught in our cycle of deadlines, profit, promotions, ranking, luxury, needs and desires that we forget the real essence of life.

The universe conspires to help you and aligns itself according to the path that you begin to follow.

Even after developing status, wealth or power people tend to wander for real happiness while some wish to start their life once again. Why does this happen? Why do most of the people choose to travel to discover answers to their questions?

This book helps you to even know the right questions you should be looking answers for as most of us look for answers to the wrong questions thus fetching nothing at the end.

His road beckoned him, his calling summoned him, his path lead him ahead while he fought with his inner demons.

Some pages might turn out to be boring for some readers when it will come to descriptive history or spiritual texts but for others, it can be interesting. I loved the ending and could feel myself getting detached from the mountains and come back to the city traffic. The signs from the universe while the departure of the author from the mountains leaves your eyes numb. The whole anecdote gives you an exposure to emotions of happiness, anger, interrogation, and sadness.

Conclusion

Some of my readers might wonder why I chose this book review to be the first blog of my page, well the answer hides in this book itself. This book will take you to that one person whom you had always been looking for. And that one person is you. This is one of those handful reads which becomes a word of mouth. I will always be grateful to this art and the author in many ways regardless of whatever my life turns out to be.

BREAK FREE... Do something that you fear... It's maktub, it is meant to be.
Its not just a journey, its a discovery.
